Bish Frame

 

For this tutorial we will be using the beautiful artwork of Carolyn Bish.

No copyright infringement intended as her artwork is being used for learning purposes only.


Supplies – Carolyn Bish Art or use your own

Filters – Filter Factory Gallery S – itsa Edge thing

Simple – Quick Tile
Filters Unlimited 2– DC Special – Book

Open the Carolyn Bish Artwork in PSP – Duplicate It & Close the Original. We will be using her Art throughout this tutorial.

File – New – 500 x 273 transparent

With Selection Tool set on rectangle – make a selection like the sample

If your rulers aren’t turned on – go to View - Rulers

Try to make it as even as possible with the distance equal on all sides

 

Effects – 3D Effects – Drop Shadow

V&H 3 Opacity 80 Blur 5 Color Black

 

 

Repeat Changing only the V&H to minus 3 and minus 3

 

Activate the Bish Artwork – Copy – Active the new file with the selection – Paste INTO Selection

Select None

 

Right Click on Layer Pallet – New Raster Layer

Right Click – Arrange – Move to Bottom

 

Making sure you are on the bottom layer – Select All

Paste INTO Selection (the art is still in your clipboard)

Effects – Plugins – Simple – Quick Tile

Selections – Modify – Contract 10

Selections – Invert

Adjust – Blur – Gaussian Blur set at 15

Selections – Invert

Effects – 3D Effects – Drop Shadow

V&H 3 Opacity 80 Blur 5 Color Black

Repeat Changing only the V&H to minus 3 and minus 3

Selections - Invert

 

Effects – Plugins – Filters Unlimited 2 – DC Special – Book

Settings 0 and 70

 

Repeat DC Special Once

 

Select None

Right Click on Layer Pallet - Merge Visible

 

Image – Add 15 pixel borders color #ffe4d9

Select with Magic Wand

Effects – Filter Factory S – itsa Edge thing

 

 

Repeat Filter Factory S – itsa Edge thing once

 

Selections Invert

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow

V&H 3 Opacity 80 Blur 5 Color Black

Repeat Drop Shadow changing V&H to minus 3 and minus 3

Select None

 

Image – Add Borders 25 pixels any color not in your image. Select with magic wand

Activate the Bish artwork – Edit – Copy

Activate the image with the new border and Paste Into Selection

Adjust – Blur – Gaussian Blur set at 15

Select All - Selection Modify – Contract 15

Effects – 3D Effects – Drop Shadow V&H 3 Opacity 80 Blur 5 Color #403936

Repeat Changing only the V&H to minus 3 and minus 3

Selection – Invert

 

Effects – Plugins – Simple – 4 Way Average

Keep Selected – Right Click on Layer Pallett – New Raster Layer – Fill with color #ffe4d9

Set Opacity at 100 – Blend Mode Saturation (L)

 

 

Select None

 

Creating Corner Accents

 

Right Click on the top Layer in the Layer Pallet – New Raster Layer

Change the Foreground on the Material Pallet to White

With the Pen Tool Settings - Mode - Draw Lines or Polylines – Create On Vector - Line Style Long Short Dash or

Any Line Style of your choice Width 1

 

 

On the new raster layer draw a horizontal line on the right hand corner using foreground color white.

When satisfied – Right Click on Layer Pallet & Convert to Raster Layer.

Right Click on Layer Pallet – New Raster Layer

Draw vertical line to meet with the horizontal line you just created.

Convert to Raster Layer. If not using the optional method continue with CLOSE All Layers instruction.

 

OPTIONAL METHOD

Omitting vertical line instructions above

Right Click on Layer Pallet – Layer Duplicate

With the Mover Tool move to the center of your image.

Image – Rotate – Free Rotate – 90 LEFT

Move both Corner Accents together per the sample

END OF OPTIONAL METHOD

 

CLOSE All Layers EXCEPT the top 2 layers

(where you just created the corner accent) by Clicking on the EYE creating a red X on these layers

Highlight the top Raster Layer – Right Click & Merge Visible.

 

 

Set the Opacity of the Layer at 34 Blend Mode Normal

 

 

Right Click on Layer Pallet - Layer Duplicate – Mirror

Right Click on New Layer in Layer Pallet - Layer Duplicate – Flip

Right Click on New Layer in Layer Pallet - Layer Duplicate – Mirror

 

Open all of your layers by Clicking on the Eye in the Layer Pallet removing the Red X

 

Click on the Background Layer in the Layer Pallet to Activate.

Selections – Select All

Selections – Modify Contract – 10

Selections Invert

Plugins - Effects – Filter Factory S – itsa Edge thing SETTINGS at 0 and 0

Select None

 

Save as PSP file so that you can make changes later.

Merge Visible – Resize in 90% bicubic increments All Layers Checked to suit your project.

Save as jpg file.
